Army Review: Forces of The Abyss

Forces of The Abyss Review

Intro

What this army is about (Styles, tricks, or “thing” they do):

NG: Forces of the Abyss is a thematic tricks & traps army. You need to rely on strategy or high nerve + regen to survive. Commands function mainly to change unit characteristics (better melee, making opponents hit worse, free shooting), giving the feeling of abyssals being ever changing & adapting to surprise their foes. The variety of unique hero options feels thematic, letting the player decide what kind of force this is. Are you a small raiding party, going to cause havoc for the dark joy of it? Or is this a vanguard force, led by an infamous greater demon to prepare the way for a full scale invasion?

Road to Masters: Part 1

Road to Masters

Between now and the 2027 US Masters next summer, I’m going to chronologue my efforts to qualify for Masters. If you’ve ever wanted to make Masters, or if you’ve even just wanted to be great at something, you’ll get the full inside look at what it takes. Kings of War 101: Choosing an Army

This article came about by another one of our team members, Sam Moore, reflecting on getting into Kings of War less than a year ago and wishing there were more resources for new players trying to figure out the best and easiest way to get into Kings of War. While there is not a clear cut answer below or a unified list, this is intended to allow players to form their opinions based on what things they value and to help them avoid pitfalls when it comes to things that could burn a new player when starting an army for the first time. If you're new and reading this, we hope it's helpful and please reach out with any other questions!

The Sams go to Masters

Intro

Sam and I (the Sam’s Club of Ohio, if you will) both played at US Masters for Kings of War for the first time this year. We talked on the phone for a good portion of our drives home and realized we wanted to write up a reflection of our time at Masters. It’s a tournament unlike anything else we’ve gone to before. Every game is against a seasoned veteran and you’re out there fighting for your life. 6 games across 2 days is exhausting. And there’s the real stress of the weight knowing that you’re playing in the most prestigious event in the US. That said, we both had a wonderful time in game and out of game. I’m excited for us to share our experience as first time players at US Masters.

**Intro**

What this army is about (Styles, tricks, or “thing” they do):

SK: Xirkaali is the new army for 4th edition and is a hybrid army made of human monks and dog/bear-like hemicyons fighters. The monks are generally slow and have iron resolve while the hemicyons are faster and have strider. The army hates magic and has no spellcasters (kind of).
